Walking Spanish,
living its culture.
¡Hola, World!
Me llamo Alex, soy de Ecuador pero vivo en Viena, Austria since 25 years. When I was a young adult, my relentless curiosity to explore the world, my dream of studying in Europe, and a special Austrian girl inspired me to leave everything behind and start a new life. This included learning a new language from scratch in order to continue my university studies.
I didn’t leave only nice things behind. I’m middle class and have always been. It wasn’t easy being a young middle class person in Ecuador at that time, and for many young people it isn’t easy being one anywhere nowadays. At that time, Ecuador was going through a tough time, and it still is. In a way, I also wanted to take a break from certain situations. I wanted to finish my studies and return home with a European psychology diploma. This motivated me to move forward, leaving constraining situations behind, and carrying with me the love and courage of my people.

Everything has changed since then. Everything has evolved. Much of that story no longer exists. I never returned home for many reasons. I discovered old Europe and new Europe. Its people, its culture… Especially in Austria, especially in Vienna.
Now, my home is here. Tomorrow, who knows? I’ve realized that we can all be citizens of this beautiful Earth, our true home, our Pachamama (Mother Earth in Kichwa).
This journey has allowed me to embrace the values and ethics outlined in the next section. Feel free to work with me and help shape them. Feel free to propose new ones and evolve them with me over time.
Life, Respect, Love, Intelligence, and Transparency are the principles we try to live and work by. These principles form the foundation of the values below.
Autonomy through trust and cooperation.
People first, systems in support.
Clarity and honesty.
Human connection, thoughtfully supported.

Who is behind this project
Spanish Shots is an early-stage project focused on exploring speaking-first Spanish learning experiences for adults. It is currently being developed as a concept centered on real-life communication, with an emphasis on method and practical application.
We work with open-source principles in mind and approach privacy by design as a standard rather than an afterthought.
I’m a psychologist and Spanish teacher and project lead with 25 years of experience in education. I am responsible for course design, coaching oversight, and business development. My working style is agile, research-informed, and human-centered. I explore openly, test before committing, and adapt when the evidence calls for it.

This concept is being developed in collaboration with Lucho Ardila from Árbol, a branding and visual communication studio based in Costa Rica and Colombia, contributing to brand strategy and visual identity.
Our web infrastructure is being developed in collaboration with Daniel Ayoola and Isaac Shed from ManageMySite, a web design and development agency with locations in the UK, USA, and Nigeria.
The learning method has been explored and tested in different forms and is currently being developed into an initial version. As the project evolves, there may be opportunities to collaborate with others who are interested in contributing to its development.

How we work — and what that requires
We treat people’s time and energy as the most valuable resources in any collaboration. That is why we aim to be productive — not through overwork, but through focused cooperation and the deliberate application of lean, agile and human-centred principles. These are not labels. They shape how we coordinate, decide, deliver and improve.
In practice:
We explore before we define, and we define what ‘done’ means before we start building.
We document decisions and assumptions openly and efficiently.
We work in short iterations, continuously improving as standard — not as an exception.
We prioritise evidence over assumptions. How rigorously depends on the domain — factual or creative.
We test before committing and pivot without hesitation when the evidence demands it.
When existing solutions do not deliver the required value, we are prepared to develop new ones.
We create structure and simplicity from complexity, bringing clarity to dispersed ideas and heavy workloads through deliberate design practices.
Our frameworks adapt to our principles and values, not the other way around.
This is an early-stage environment. Roles are starting points. There is a high level of ownership, a low level of hierarchy, and the work is hands-on from day one.
Trust is earned through conduct aligned with our ethics and values, evidence-grounded work, precision, hands-on self-responsibility, respect for the process, and the willingness to address tensions rather than ignore them.
It does not work well when actions drift from our principles, when work lacks depth or grounding, when openness is missing, or when methods are followed dogmatically rather than thoughtfully.
CO-FOUNDING PATH
Back at university, I was deeply inspired by the concept of knowledge abundance and its implications for a knowledge-driven economy. This idea has been explored by thinkers such as Peter Drucker, Manuel Castells, Yochai Benkler, and Tim Jackson, among others, who work at the intersection of economics, networks, and society. This concept asserts that knowledge becomes more valuable when shared, essentially flipping the traditional economic notion of scarcity.

Everything you’ve read on this website — and much of the work behind it — has been developed with AI tools. We use AI deliberately and responsibly as a tool that amplifies thinking and execution, not as a replacement for judgment or care.
All roles here require a genuine interest in working ethically and thoughtfully with AI. Whether you are already experienced or eager to learn, the most important qualities are curiosity, responsibility, and the willingness to engage with AI critically.
We are a fully remote team. We work together online across disciplines and time zones.

Learning Designer & Coach (with potential co-founding path)
This project is exploring collaboration with people interested in co-developing and testing learning materials alongside the founder. Contributions may include experimenting with learning activities, observing what works, refining approaches, and sharing feedback based on real learner interactions.
Depending on the stage of development, contributions may also extend to areas such as voice feedback, conversation practice, or content creation (e.g., video or social media).
As the project evolves, there may be opportunities to take on a deeper role in shaping the learning approach and overall direction. Any involvement would develop organically based on contribution, alignment, and mutual interest.
This collaboration may suit Spanish teachers who:
- are eager to build an innovative language learning provider
- have freelance experience teaching Spanish
- are native Spanish speaker
- have a solid command of English (C1)
- have a genuine love for teaching
- can provide clear and supportive spoken feedback
- can work independently using a structured method.
- are willing to learn our design and development methodologies
- are willing to learn video editing and social media content creation
Marketing Lead Collaboration (with potential co-founding path)
This project is exploring collaboration with people interested in shaping how it is communicated and shared. Contributions may include experimenting with ways to reach and understand potential users, exploring messaging, and reflecting on how the concept resonates.
Depending on the stage of development, this may involve testing different communication approaches, observing how people respond, and refining ideas over time. The focus is on learning, clarity, and building trust rather than immediate performance outcomes.
Once we reach the launch phase, you will lead paid advertising across Meta, Google, YouTube, and LinkedIn. You will apply a performance-aware and data-informed approach to support sustainable business growth.
You will also coordinate organic content efforts and contribute to campaign strategy.
You will work closely with the founder and the education team to ensure the messaging is grounded in the products’ actual values. You will build and refine funnels, improve customer journey touchpoints, and collaborate with the core team to strengthen conversions at every stage, from initial contact to enrollment.
You will also explore new niches and segments, identifying demand and opportunities within language education. Over time, community building and engagement will become an increasingly central part of the role.
This collaboration may suit marketing specialists who:
- have hands-on experience with paid acquisition and performance marketing for niche audiences
- have experience building and optimising acquisition funnels and customer journey touchpoints
- can conduct strong data-informed decision-making
- can work comfortably with a small team in an early-stage context
- have know-how and a genuine interest in traditional marketing and community building
- are committed to building brand trust and long-term advocacy
- can communicate clearly, precisely, and honestly
Tech Lead Collaboration (with potential co-founding path)
This project explores collaboration with people interested in shaping its technical direction and experimentation. Contributions may include working on the website, developing simple systems for communication and coordination, and testing different ways to support the learning concept through technology.
Once we reach the launch phase, you will be responsible for the technical infrastructure that enables Spanish Shots to operate. This includes the website, marketing systems, and learning platform. Initially, the focus will be on website development, marketing automation, platform configuration, and coaching workflows. You will work closely with the founder and its partner agencies to ensure that technology serves the method, not the other way around.
As Spanish Shots grows, this role will gradually expand to include data-informed decision support, operational systems for sustainable growth, and longer-term platform architecture.
This collaboration may suit EdTech specialists who:
- have experience building and maintaining WordPress sites or modern static/front-end stacks (eg. Astro with a headless/Git-based CMS).
- have experience building marketing automation and customer journey systems.
- have hands-on experience with web development, marketing automation, and EdTech or SaaS platform configuration.
- are strong at data analysis and have systems thinking skills for workflow design.
- are comfortable with early-stage ambiguity and evolving requirements.
- have genuine interest in education and how technology can support human-led learning.
- have the ability to move between strategic decisions and hands-on implementation.
- are eager to gradually transition from configuring third-party tools toward designing and building internal systems where appropriate.
